Welcome to Fremin’s in historic downtown Thibodaux. Fremin’s is housed in one of Thibodaux’s cornerstone landmarks, formally known as “The Roth Drugstore.” Mr. E. N. Roth, Sr. built the originalthree-story building in 1878. In 1910, he opened the Roth Drugstore, owned and operated by the Rothfamily, which accommodated the drugstore, laboratories, and doctors offices. The second floor housed the offices of Dr. J. L. Danos and Dr. Thomas Stark, who were both eminent physicians in Lafourche parish. The third floor, which was destroyed in 1965 by Hurricane Betsy, contained living quarters. Even when you were sick and had to visit the doctor, it was still a memorable experience. When you left the doctors’ office, you were treated to many of the drugstores sundae’s such as a wide variety of candy or great ice cream treats from its soda fountain. Many recall their youthful days of sipping a soda before heading to a movie at the Grand Theater around the corner. As you enjoy the wonderful ambiance of Fremin’s Restaurant, you may sit and daydream of thegenerations of doctors, war heros, farmers, politicians, and famous aristocrats who gathered here to make their living through bartering. Visualize looking through the beveled glass storefront to witness the changes in day-to-day history of Main Street Thibodauxville. Imagine the horse drawn carriages to the firstautomobiles that traveled on the dirt roads through Main Street as you socialize with the melting pot of the community. In 1998, the Fremin brothers of Thibodaux - Dale, Francis, and Barry - purchased the building with the commitment to restore it to its original decor. After a two-year restoration, the majority of theremodeling was completed. The first floor includes a beveled glass and mahogany storefront and theoriginal pressed tin ceiling. The second floor features a wrought iron wrap-around balcony, original long leaf pine floors and beaded board walls. Both floors contain solid mahogany bars and porcelain mosaic tiles. The Green Street side entrance leading to the second floor includes a pressed tin marquee above its doorway.Every effort was made to bring the building back to the grandeur of the 19th century. Fremin’s Restaurant was inspired by the late Lester and Myrtle Fremin, parents of the three Freminbrothers, who savored this area’s rich Creole and Italian flavors. From our fresh baked bread and flavoredbutters to an array of signature dishes of pasta, salads, seafood, and steaks, the marriage of Creole style andItalian cooking come together in perfect harmony. Our team of culinary experts, headed by Executive Chef Kevin Templet, create extravagant meals of exquisite renditions of many past favorites. Fremin’s Restaurant also features an extensive drink menu. Bartenders, like chemists from thedrugstore era, feature special concoctions that will have you believing the drugstore still exists by, “aiding what ails you.” The second floor, which is dedicated to special functions, both private and public, hosts many savior-faire’s in the area. Fremin’s Restaurant has honored the distinguished tradition of the past through its restoration of its building and the local taste of its food. The Fremin family hopes you have a memorable dining experience with us in a true southern tradition of great food, fun, and family.
